What is a mock exam
A mock exam is a simulation of the real entrance exam – the same format, similar problems, time limit and environment as the actual Cermat test. The goal is for the child to experience "for real" what they will face on the actual day. No surprises, no unfamiliar format – just focus on performance.
What it gives the child
Reducing nerves
Children who have tried the exam in advance are calmer on the actual day – they know the format of the questions, they know what the answer sheet looks like, and nothing can surprise them. Nerves caused by the unknown are one of the main reasons children underperform in entrance exams compared to their actual level of preparation.
Practising time management
Pupils learn how much time to allocate to each type of problem so they can complete the whole test within the time limit. This skill cannot be learned from a textbook – it needs to be practised repeatedly under conditions that match the real exam.
Specific feedback
After the test is evaluated, tutors explain where and why the pupil lost points and recommend what to focus on before the real exam. This feedback is personalised and far more valuable than generic results from online tests.
Who it is suitable for
Mock exams are suitable for Year 5, 7 and 9 pupils preparing for entrance exams at grammar schools or secondary programmes with a school-leaving exam. They are especially beneficial for children for whom Czech is not their native language – encountering the real test format in a safe environment gives them the confidence that they are ready linguistically as well.
